A plant-based diet emphasizes eating more plant-based foods (i.e., fruits, vegetables, grains, nuts, seeds, and legumes/beans) and fewer or no animal products (i.e., red meat, poultry, fish, eggs, and dairy).
This is the most common question. People still think that animals are the only place to get protein. They somehow haven’t stopped to think about where the animals are getting their protein….from the plants! All plants have protein; it’s why both humans and animals eat plants. Some of the biggest, strongest animals (as well as our closest relatives in the animal kingdom) get their protein from plants.
Striving to eat a plant-based diet isn't an all or nothing situation. You can better your health and the health of the planet without feeling like you need to do it full-time.
Meat is expensive, and it keeps going up, especially if you value grass-fed, organic and low-fat cuts of beef. The price of animal products like beef and seafood has increased by more than 40 percent. Meanwhile, many plant-based sources of protein, such as beans, lentils, chickpeas, and other legumes are the cheapest sources of protein on the planet.
